Course duration – 60 days.

Hours of course: 9am – 3pm.

Days of Course: 1 -5 days per week to suit, depending on availability.

Experience: Little or no knowledge required.

Assessment criteria: Written test and practical demonstrations and assignments.

Level 3 online exam: Sat in June or November only.

Completion deadline: Within 3 years of registration.

  • are entering the industry
  • are not yet sufficiently advanced to study for the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists alone

 Level 2

What you will learn:

 Mandatory Units:

 

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  • Bathe and clean dogs
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat
  • Maintain the cleanliness and bio security of the animal care working environment

 

Level 3

What you will learn:

Mandatory Units:

 

  • Carry out styling and finishing of dogs
  • Assess and plan dog grooming work
  • Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
  • Health checking a dog by a dog groomer
  • Hand stripping a dog
  • Style and trim a spaniel’s coat
  • Style and trim a short-legged terrier’s coat

 

Additional unit

 

  • Handle payments from clients
  • Welcome, receive and care for visitors
  • Moving animals between locations
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security

 

Optional Group 2

  • Style and trim a poodle’s coat
  • Style and trim a long-legged terrier or Schnauzer’s coat
